Yerba Buena Island
The Yerba Buena Island lays in the San Francisco Bay between San Francisco and Oakland. The eastern and western spans of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge are connected through the island's tunnel. The island was named after the aromatic herb, yerba buena (means "good herb"), which is abundant in the area. Yerba Buena was also the original name of San Francisco, until 1847 when it was changed to the current after the nearby Mission San Franisco de Asís.
